A simple explanation

Artificial intelligence, usually called AI, refers to computer systems designed to perform tasks that normally require abilities associated with human intelligence. These tasks may include recognizing patterns, processing language, identifying objects, making predictions and generating content.

How AI systems learn

Many AI systems are developed using large collections of examples or data. During training, a system learns patterns that help it produce predictions or responses. Different AI systems use different methods, and not every system learns or operates in the same way.

Where AI is used

AI can help filter unwanted messages, recommend content, translate languages, recognize speech, support navigation and assist with research. Generative AI can produce new text, images, audio and computer code based on instructions.

Understand the limitations

AI systems can produce incorrect answers, misleading explanations and fabricated references. Their output may also reflect gaps or biases in the information used to develop them. A fluent or confident response does not guarantee accuracy.

Use AI thoughtfully

Check important information against reliable sources. Protect confidential information and understand the privacy terms of any service you use. Follow relevant laws and workplace or educational rules. Treat AI as a tool to support human judgment rather than a replacement for it.
