Understand the parts of an email

An email usually includes a recipient address, a subject and a message. The CC field sends a copy to additional recipients. The BCC field can hide those recipients' addresses from other people receiving the message.

Write a clear message

Choose a short subject that describes the purpose. Start with a suitable greeting, explain your request in a few clear sentences and finish politely. Break longer messages into paragraphs so they are easier to read.

Check recipients and attachments

Before sending, verify the recipient address and review the message. Make sure you have attached the correct file and that it does not contain information you did not intend to share. Remember that email can be forwarded and stored.

Organize your inbox

Use folders, labels or search to find important messages. Delete unwanted messages and unsubscribe from mailing lists you no longer need. Be careful when deleting messages that contain information you may need later.

Handle email safely

Treat unexpected attachments, sign-in links and urgent payment requests with caution. Do not share passwords or verification codes by email. If a message appears to come from someone you know but requests money or sensitive information, confirm through another communication method.
